Tips to a Thinner Thanksgiving

As we all know, the holidays are approaching. During this time, excuses regarding weight gain arise, and we all have to resist those holiday treats coming into the office daily! Well, this is our chance to say NO, and get ready to keep the weight off this season. Thanksgiving is a time to enjoy yourself and spend time with friends and family. There are many ways to enjoy ourselves, but there are also many ways to be smart about our choices this Thanksgiving Day!

Here are a few tips and tricks to stay healthy and happy this Turkey Day:

Start your morning off with a healthy breakfast to jumpstart your metabolism.

Example: 4 oz. egg whites
½ cup oatmeal
1/4 banana

Get your workout in early!  Push yourself HARDER than you usually would; this will help you make healthier choices throughout the rest of the day!

Here is an example of a great Turkey Burn:

5 rotations total

20 pop Squats
20 switch Lunges (each leg)
10 burpees with tuck jump
20 high jumps
20 alien squats
Optional: use a 5-lb, 10-lb, or 15-lb dumbbell for higher intensity.

Small portions sizes. When putting together your Thanksgiving plate, start off with smaller portions. Most of the time, our eyes are much bigger than our stomachs. STOP eating when you are starting to feel full! This will avoid that miserable feeling of overeating.

Slowly SAVOR. When choosing your dinner plate, pick healthier options (if possible) such as whole wheat rolls, sweet potatoes, etc. Be sure to eat slow and savor the taste— this will also prevent overeating.

ENJOY yourself! Take this time to enjoy your family and friends. Don’t stress about being too hard on yourself!

Thanksgiving is a time to enjoy those around us, and be thankful for all that we have! On this day, try to focus more on weight maintenance instead of weight LOSS. It is ONE day you can enjoy yourself, splurge a little, and come back Friday refreshed. One day will not hurt you, as long as you jump RIGHT back on track the next day. This Thursday, keep in mind the tips to a thinner Thanksgiving… Stay dedicated and determined, and remember the “Skye’s the LIMIT”!
